Intercropping sorghum and grasses during off-season in Brazilian Cerrado

چکیده

Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) may be harmlessly intercropped with Urochloa species during the off-season in Brazilian Cerrado. At end of sorghum cycle, forages can used for straw production soybean (Glycine max L.) as summer crop. This study aimed to evaluate cultivated off-season, palisade grass (Urochloa brizantha cv. ‘Marandu’ (Hochst. ex A. Rich). R. D. Webster) and Congo ruziziensis (R. Germ. Evrard) Crins) two row spacings (0.5 0.7 m) their effect on plant growth, dry mass production, yield grain yield. The experiment was a randomized block design: 3 × 2 factorial scheme, three levels intercropping (palisade grass, or sole cropping) spacing four replicates. Several physiological growth indexes were estimated from 10 60 days after emergence (DAE), including matter agronomic performance. accumulated 0.22 g d?1 at DAE, not affected by intercropping. gain (0.04 average) either. Higher (2,922 kg ha?1) observed under 0.5-m when compared 0.7-m spacing. results indicate that companion crops no loss, it improve yield, soil cover integrated crop systems, aiming sustainable intensification.

Mechanisms of drought stress tolerance in cool season grasses

Drought stress is one of the most limiting abiotic stresses affecting growth, production and survival of plants in many areas of the world, and is expected to intensify considering the trend of climate change. Grass species are important for the sustainability of agricultural systems, forage resources for animal farming and landscapes. Grass species adapt to water deficit by different morpholog...

Stability and adaptability of grain sorghum hybrids in the off-season.

We analyzed productivity data obtained from experiments on grain sorghum conducted in 7 locations of its cultivation in Brazil. A total of 25 hybrids were analyzed, of which 22 were pre-commercial and 3 were cultivars. The Wricke and Purchase et al. methods were highly consistent in identifying individuals with low contributions to genotype x environment interactions. The Lin and Binns method p...

Warm-Season Grasses for Hay and Pasture

Switchgrass, Indiangrass, and big bluestem are warmseason grasses that are a suitable alternative for summer pasture in Iowa. Their advantage over cool-season grasses such as bluegrass, bromegrass, and orchardgrass is their ability to produce during midsummer. These warm-season perennial grasses start growing in late spring as air and soil temperatures increase. Leaf growth often occurs in earl...

Brazilian Cerrado Soil Actinobacteria Ecology

A total of 2152 Actinobacteria strains were isolated from native Cerrado (Brazilian Savannah) soils located in Passos, Luminárias, and Arcos municipalities (Minas Gerais State, Brazil). The soils were characterised for chemical and microbiological analysis. The microbial analysis led to the identification of nine genera (Streptomyces, Arthrobacter, Rhodococcus, Amycolatopsis, Microbacterium, Fr...
