Interannual Variability of Extreme Precipitation during the Boreal Summer over Northwest China

چکیده

Herein, we investigated the characteristics and mechanisms of interannual variability extreme summer precipitation in northwest China (NWC). The four high-resolution predicting products under assessment indicated that both accumulation daily ≥95th percentile, maxima generally decreased a southeast—northwest direction, while relatively high values were observed Tienshan Qilian Mountain areas. In turn, Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite dataset underestimated mountainous areas, Asian highly—resolved observational data integration towards evaluation (APHRODITE) Climate Prediction Center (CPC) captured NWC. AMIP-type simulations NWC quite unsuccessful. However, all them can capture increasing trends. Therefore, further found increase is strongly correlated with weakened South high, strengthened Western Pacific Subtropical enhanced westerly jet, mid- to high-latitude Rossby wave trains, whose formation sustenance be traced back sea surface temperature-anomalies western May, June, July. An increased temperature promotes convection induces diabatic heating, which stimulates anticyclonic anomalies disturb resulting barotropic train via Gill-type response. Additionally, it guides more water vapor convergence enhances upward motion over Europe Eastern Asia, cyclonic Central Asia.

Variability of summer precipitation over eastern China

We use measurements of recent decades, 1500-yr proxy data, and millennium model simulations with a variety of climate facings to study the temporal and spatial variability of summer precipitation over eastern China. Spectral analysis of the proxy data using multi-taper method reveals three statistically significant bidecadal (15–35-yr), 5 pendadecadal (40–60-yr), and centennial (65–170-yr) osci...

Dynamics of Interannual Variability in Summer Precipitation over East Asia*

The summertime mei-yu–baiu rainband over East Asia displays considerable interannual variability. A singular value decomposition (SVD) analysis for interannual variability reveals that precipitation anomalies over the mei-yu–baiu region are accompanied by in situ anomalies of midtropospheric horizontal temperature advection. Anomalous warm (cool) advection causes increased (decreased) mei-yu–ba...

Tropical–Extratropical Teleconnections in Boreal Summer: Observed Interannual Variability*

Maximum covariance analysis is performed on the fields of boreal summer, tropical rainfall, and Northern Hemisphere (NH) 200-hPa height for the 62-yr period of record of 1948–2009. The leading mode, which appears preferentially in summers preceding the peak phases of the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) cycle, involves a circumglobal teleconnection (CGT) pattern in the NH extratropical 200-h...

Interannual variations of the boreal summer intraseasonal variability predicted by ten atmosphere–ocean coupled models

The reproducibility of boreal summer intraseasonal variability (ISV) and its interannual variation by dynamical models are assessed through diagnosing 21-year retrospective forecasts from ten state-of-the-art ocean– atmosphere coupled prediction models. To facilitate the assessment, we have defined the strength of ISV activity by the standard deviation of 20–90 days filtered precipitation durin...

Interannual Variability of the U.S. Summer Precipitation Regime with Emphasis on the Southwestern Monsoon

Relationships between the interannual variability of the U.S. summer precipitation regime and the intensification, weakening, or changes in position of the climatological-mean circulation features that organize this regime are examined. The focus is on the atmospheric conditions over the conterminous United States relative to wet and dry monsoons over the southwestern United States. The onset o...
