INTERACTIVE METADISCOURSE MARKERS IN INDONESIAN EFL STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC WRITING

The research on metadiscourse markers investigation in academic texts has grown very rapidly the last decade. However, interactive EFL students' writing is still relatively underexplored. Therefore, this study aims to reveal how competence of students use by comparing two groups with different grades, third-semester and fifth-semester students. design a combination quantitative qualitative methods. A total 40 were participating divided into groups. Each group consists 20 They assigned write minimum-250-word essay about importance English mastery disrupted era 4.0. Around 818 identified student’s texts. results that discourse was considered low quantity. transition most dominant found text, followed frame markers, code gloss, endophoric evidential respectively. Moreover, fifth semester perform slightly better than their counterparts at using markers. both encountered difficulties employ writing. lack practice student's native language might have contributed quality
