Interaction in Assistive Robotics: A Radical Constructivist Design Framework

چکیده

Despite decades of research, muscle-based control assistive devices (myocontrol) is still unreliable; for instance upper-limb prostheses, each year more and dexterous human-like, provide hardly enough functionality to justify their cost the effort required use them. In order try close this gap, we propose shift goal myocontrol from guessing intended movements creating new circular reactions in constructivist sense defined by Piaget. To aim, system must be able acquire knowledge forget past one, acquisition/forgetting happen on demand , requested either user or itself. We a unifying framework based upon Radical Constructivism design such system, including its interface user-device interaction strategy.

Social Assistive Robots: a Roboethics Framework for Human Robotics Interaction in Elderly Care

Over the coming decades we will require assistive technologies capable of providing, care, human dignity and quality of life through the aging process. Social Assistive Robots (SARs) start to demonstrate a high potential for being used in the areas of social and healthcare by promoting a wide range of activities such as supervision, entertainment or cognitive and physical assistance. Such close...

A Human–Robot Interaction Perspective on Assistive and Rehabilitation Robotics

Assistive and rehabilitation devices are a promising and challenging field of recent robotics research. Motivated by societal needs such as aging populations, such devices can support motor functionality and subject training. The design, control, sensing, and assessment of the devices become more sophisticated due to a human in the loop. This paper gives a human-robot interaction perspective on...

Socially Assistive Robotics as a Subclass of Human-Robot Interaction

Extended Abstract Robotic technology has been proposed as a means of automating the most repetitive of health-care and daily hygiene tasks, including getting out of bed, brushing teeth and applying makeup, and facilitated locomotion. Such systems naturally require a great deal of physical contact with human users, resulting in safety issues and concerns that have not yet been fully addressed by...

Assistive and rehabilitation robotics

Assistive robotics aims at developing solutions (mechatronic devices, systems and technologies) to assist and interact with individuals with reduced motor or cognitive abilities in order to increase their autonomy in a personal environment. Rehabilitation robotics proposes similar solutions for assisted therapy and objective functional assessment of these patients usually in a clinical context ...

Challenges for interactivist-constructivist robotics

The interactivist-constructivist (IC) approach to cognitive systems (Bickhard, 1993; Bickhard and Campbell, 1996; Indurkhya, 1992; Christensen and Hooker, 2000) offers a sound framework for understanding cognition and representation and for designing genuinely intelligent artificial systems. Motivated either by theoretical considerations, by the problems of classical artificial intelligence and...
