Interaction between Neuroendocrinology and Immunology: Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Thyroid Axis in Immunoendocrinology

چکیده
The study of interactions between neuroendocrinology and immunology, or immunoendocrinology, is a recent field with the majority its development in last 30 years that involves communication nervous, endocrine, immune systems. Homeostasis, development, aging, metabolism, infection, inflammation are all influenced by cross talk these systems via hormones, cytokines, neurotransmitters. nervous system affects through either hypothalamus-pituitary axes (adrenal, gonadal, thyroid, growth-hormone) neuropeptide hormone signals autonomic norepinephrine acetylcholine. On other hand, passes feedback cytokine type concentration blood. Imbalance any leads to increased risk severity metabolic, psychiatric, inflammatory autoimmune diseases. These two complex standalone even more so their interaction. Thus, relationship hypothalamus-pituitary-thyroid axis necessary be reviewed.

The Pituitary-Thyroid Axis in Acromegaly
The pituitary-Thyroid axis of 12 Acromegalic patients was evaluated by measurement of the concentration (Total and free of thyroxine T4, T3 and revers T3 (rT3) and TSH, GH and prolactin before and after in stimulation with TRH. Using an ultrasensitive method of TSH measurement (IRMA) basal serum TSH levels of patients (0.76, 0.07-l.90mlU/L) were found slightly but significantly (P < 0.01), low...

Ho et al. reminds us that correlation analysis suffers from limiations in assessing agreement between methods. Such agreement houldbeassessedusingBland-Altmanplots. Thismethod is largely nown as the original 1986 paper of Bland and Altman has been the ost frequently cited article ever to appear in the Lancet and is one f the ten most frequently cited statistical articles ever (Bland and ltman, ...
متن کاملHypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis and the immune system.
The paper reviews data on bidirectional circuits between the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis and the immune system. The effects of thyroliberin (TRH), thyrotropin (TSH) and of thyroid hormones (thyroxine and triiodothyronine) on the immune system, as well as the effects of mono- and lymphokines on the HPT axis are discussed.
متن کاملChanges of the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis in aging
Study of healthy aging of the hypothalamic-pituitarythyroid axis is difficult, since aging is accompanied by the increased frequency of various thyroid diseases and of extrathyroidal disease, as well as by the increased intake of medicines modulating the function of this axis. Nevertheless, researchers managed to determine that in the paraventricular nucleus of aged humans the number of neurons...
متن کاملMethamphetamine and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis
Psychostimulants such as methamphetamine (MA) induce significant alterations in the function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. These changes in HPA axis function are associated with altered stress-related behaviors and might contribute to addictive processes such as relapse. In this mini-review we discuss acute and chronic effects of MA (adult and developmental exposure) on the ...
