Interaction between Fe66Cr10Nb5B19 metallic glass and aluminum during spark plasma sintering

In the area of metal matrix composites, novel reinforcing options are currently being evaluated. Particles amorphous alloys present an interesting possibility to reinforce soft metals. work, interaction between Fe66Cr10Nb5B19 metallic glass and aluminum during spark plasma sintering (SPS) was studied for first time. order trace phase microstructural changes upon sintering, mixtures containing 20 vol% 50 were subjected SPS at 500–570 °C. After 500 °C, no reaction layer particles observed. 570 a Fe2Al5 FeAl3 formed around Fe-based cores. The Vickers hardness composites obtained from 540 °C 75 HV increased 280 after due formation thicker layers interface. composite sintered mixture values predicted by Reuss Voigt models. Comparison results powder with those pre-compacted pellet electric current-free annealing suggests that local heating interface caused interfacial resistance may be important factor influencing advancement Al-containing intermetallics.
