Intensive Nutritional Counseling and Education for Management of Hyperphosphatemia in Hemodialysis Patients at Al-Khor Hospital- Hamad Medical Corporation - State of Qatar

Objectives: To assess the dietary phosphate intake of hemodialysis patients with hyperphosphatemia and effects a dietetic intervention focused on limiting load. Design: Cross-sectional assessment prospective study. Setting: Hospital units AL-Khor hospital – Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar. Subjects: sixteen stable adult patients, who had phosphorus serum levels ≥1.6 mmol/L. Intervention: Analysis composition individual counseling to reduce while preserving same or improving protein intake. Main outcome measures: Differences in nutrient between pre post-dietary among changes phosphorus–protein ratio, phosphate, after intervention. Results: Significant differences including energy, protein, were detected After decrease phosphate–protein ratio (28.9 -13.4 mg/g, P <0.05) also occurred. Serum showed trend significant (2.2mmol/L-1.68mmol/L), < 0.05). Conclusion: Individual intensive nutritional education may be useful reducing load positive effect A phosphate-controlled diet has role an integrated therapeutic approach calcium-phosphorus balance patients.
