Integrated pest management effects on weed populations managed without herbicides in the Pacific Northwest

چکیده
Pesticide usage on public school grounds is a concern in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. Our objective was to determine how variations primary cultural management practices (mowing, fertilization, and irrigation), absence of herbicide applications, can affect turfgrass quality, weed populations. Three experiments were conducted over three years at OSU Lewis-Brown Horticulture Farm Corvallis, OR mixed stand cool-season turfgrass. Findings from mowing study show that 10.0 cm weekly height resulted significantly fewer weeds than plots maintained 5.0 cm. Results fertility indicate 4.9 9.8 g N m–2 yr–1, reduced populations as compared non-fertilized plots. No differences incidence observed between treatments irrigation trial, but receiving (0.6 applied four times per week 80% ETref replacement week) acceptable turf quality throughout trial.

True integrated weed management
Using the simplest of definitions, integrated weed management has been described as “putting components [of weed control] together, not taking them apart.” Yet, weed science has stopped at the “field edge” in assembling the components into a truly integrated approach. What is keeping weed scientists from developing real integrated weed control regardless of space and time? The answer to this qu...

Certified Crop Advisors of Arkansas and members of the Arkansas Crop Consultants Association were surveyed in fall 2006 through direct mail to assess current weed management practices and needs in rice from both a research and educational perspective. Consultants reported scouting 564,000 of the possible 1,400,000 acres (40%) of rice grown in Arkansas. Preemergence herbicides most often recomme...
