چکیده
Giant reed (Arundo donax L.) is a promising source of carbohydrates that can be converted into single cell oil (SCO) by oleaginous yeasts. Microbial conversion both hemicellulose and cellulose fractions represents the key step for increasing economic sustainability SCO production. Lipomyces starkeyi DSM 70,296 was cultivated in two xylose-rich hydrolysates, obtained microwave-assisted hydrolysis catalysed FeCl3 or Amberlyst-70, glucose-rich hydrolysates enzymatic cellulose. L. grew on undetoxified partially-detoxified achieving lipid content 30 wt% yield values range 15–24 wt%. For integrated cascade processes final production about 8 g from 100 biomass achieved. through solution effective exploitation lignocellulosic feedstock perennial grasses towards new generation biodiesel other valuable bio-based products.

Effect of feeding strategies on lipid production by Lipomyces starkeyi.
The aim of this study was to produce microbial oil from Lipomyces starkeyi DSM 70296 grown in hemicellulose hydrolysate (H-H). Glucose and xylose were used for batch, fed-batch, repeated fed-batch, and continuous cultures, and H-H was tested at continuous culture. The highest cell and lipid concentrations of 85.4 and 41.8g/L, respectively, were obtained using repeated fed-batch strategy. Contin...
متن کاملMechanism of biodegradation of paraquat by Lipomyces starkeyi.
The biodegradation of ring-14C- and methyl-14C-labeled paraquat by the soil yeast Lipomyces starkeyi was studied in vitro. It was found that the degradation of paraquat (acting as a sole source of culture nitrogen) resulted in the accumulation in the extracellular medium of radiolabeled acetic acid. The culture also evolved radiolabeled CO2. The results suggest that the degradation of paraquat ...
متن کاملSingle Cell Oil Producing Yeasts Lipomyces starkeyi and Rhodosporidium toruloides: Selection of Extraction Strategies and Biodiesel Property Prediction
Single cell oils (SCOs) are considered potential raw material for the production of biodiesel. Rhodosporidium sp. and Lipomyces sp. are good candidates for SCO production. Lipid extractability differs according to yeast species and literature on the most suitable method for each oleaginous yeast species is scarce. This work aimed to investigate the efficiency of the most cited strategies for ex...
متن کاملFatty alcohol production in Lipomyces starkeyi and Yarrowia lipolytica
BACKGROUND Current biological pathways to produce biofuel intermediates amenable to separations and catalytic upgrading to hydrocarbon fuels are not cost effective. Previously, oleaginous yeasts have been investigated primarily for lipid production. However, yeasts store neutral lipids intracellularly making recovery difficult and expensive. In addition, once recovered from the cells, lipids ar...
متن کاملCadmium Phytoremediation by Arundo donax L. from Contaminated Soil and Water
The potential of Arundo donax L. for phytoextraction of cadmium (Cd) from contaminated soil and water was probed. The plants were grown under greenhouse conditions in pots containing a nutrient solution or soil with increasing doses of Cd (0, 50, 100, 250, 500, 750, and 1000 μg L(-1)) for 21 days. The growth and physiology of plants were evaluated at the end of the experiment. The maximum Cd co...
