چکیده

Background: Screening of Esophageal Varices (EV) in liver cirrhosis is highly recommended all consensus reports. The standard screening procedure endoscopy. Insulin resistance (IR) and the quantitative insulin sensitivity check index (QUICKI) are reliable predictors portal hypertension. Objective: study aimed to assess compare validity sensitivity/insulin markers other non-invasive for detection EVs post chronic hepatitis C virus cirrhotic patients. Patients Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 76 patients were screened by esophagogastroduodenoscopy abdominal ultrasonography. Estimation fasting serum ELISA technique was carried out. Homeostasis model assessment (HOMA-IR) QUICKI performed. Results: with an advanced grade EV had higher lower QUICKI. A cut-off value HOMA-IR ≥ 3.4 could significantly predict 72% 80.0% specificity. Spleen diameter platelet count/spleen ratio (PC/SD) showed a significant difference among groups. Conclusion: Lower (assessed QUICKI) HOMA IR) good EVs. addition, vein (PV) diameter, spleen PC/SD also found as

Insulin resistance in non-diabetic patients of chronic Hepatitis C

OBJECTIVE To determine insulin resistance in non-diabetic chronic hepatitis C patients using Homeostatic Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR). METHODOLOGY Patients having anti-HCV positive were included in this study. Patients with diabetes mellitus, thyroid disease, hyperlipidemias, hypercortisolism and infective diseases other than hepatitis C were excluded. Age, weight, height ...

Hepatitis C Virus, Insulin Resistance, and Steatosis

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is one of the main causes of liver disease worldwide. Liver steatosis is a common finding in many hepatic and extrahepatic disorders, the most common being metabolic syndrome (MS). Over time, it has been shown that the frequent coexistence of these two conditions is not coincidental, since many epidemiological, clinical, and experimental studies have indicated HCV to be ...

Insulin resistance, steatosis and hepatitis C virus

Epidemiological studies have shown an increased occurrence of metabolic disorders such as insulin resistance (IR) and steatosis in patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. IR is believed to represent one of the central clinical features of the "metabolic syndrome" and the major pathogenetic factor for type 2 diabetes mellitus. In patients with chronic HCV hepatitis, IR may have several ...

Adipokines and insulin resistance, predictors of response to therapy in Egyptian patients with chronic hepatitis C virus genotype 4.

BACKGROUND Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection has major health impact worldwide and is a significant cause of chronic liver disease. In Egypt, HCV is highly endemic (up to 15% of the population); 91% of the patients are infected with genotype 4. Searching for new predictors of response to therapy is mandatory to decrease the cost and the adverse effects of current therapy. AIM The aim of this ...

Assessment of Insulin Resistance and Insulin Growth Factor-1 in Egyptian Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C

Introduction: Insulin resistance (IR) is documented in patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC), plays an important factor in disease progression and predicting poor response to treatment. In chronic liver disease, levels of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) were correlated with IR. Aim: To evaluate IR and serum levels of IGF-1 in Egyptian patients with CHC after anti-viral therapy. Patients ...
