Institutional determinants of environmental performance

This note examines the impact of three institutional factors on environmental performance and carbon intensity gross domestic product (GDP) for a cross-section sample 154 countries. The are democratization, market orientation economy, prevalence corruption. Per capita income is generally used as control variable. As distribution some variables highly skewed, we apply several robust regression methods, in comparison to ordinary least squares (OLS). Results differ depending estimation method, but per negatively related positively correlated with performance. higher degree better state environment lower intensity. Market economy ambiguous at first sight, if an interaction variable democracy index applied, effect quite large significant. In this case, corruption fades. Sensitivity analyses reveal, that introducing democratic most promising strategy promote well cut emission
