چکیده

A recent study [H. Hao and F. Semperlotti, Phys. Rev. B 104, 104303 (2021)] investigated the dynamic behavior of an infinite one-dimensional (1D) thermoacoustic waveguide (TAWG) illustrated its ability to sustain nonreciprocal near zero-index sound propagation behavior; these properties can be very beneficial in design acoustic devices, including diodes, amplifiers, cloaks. Nevertheless, it is critical realize that when this concept implemented a finite-length waveguide, instabilities may occur either drastically reduce or completely hinder TAWG control manipulate sound. In work, we uncover investigate occurrence evanescent intrinsic (ITA) modes 1D with anechoic terminations. The stability analysis clearly distinguishes two types highlights their different origin rooted thermoviscous effects. Numerical results reveal ITA anechoic-terminated are strictly connected acoustic-driven modes, evolve towards unstable as TA coupling strength increased. This have important implications for practical novel manipulating devices enabled by elements. conclusions drawn also shed lights on effective suppression TAWGs.

Thermoacoustic Instabilities: Modelling and Control

The goal of this study was twofold. First, modelling strategies were proposed to characterize the dynamics driving the thermoacoustic instabilities in a swirl-stabilized premixed burner. Secondly, this model was used to synthesize controllers in order to apply active control strategies to suppress this phenomenon. An experimental combustor model based on acoustic properties of the combustion ch...

Modeling and Active Control of Thermoacoustic Instabilities

Due to stringent emission regulations, modern gas turbines work in lean premixed mode and thermoacoustic instabilities are often observed. They cause mechanical damage and therefore have to be reduced. This paper describes the development of an acoustic network model for a lab-scale lean premixed methane combustor at ETH Zurich. The model is verified against experimental data and is then used t...

Thermoacoustic Instabilities in the Rijke Tube: Experiments and Modeling

Thermoacoustic instability can appear in thermal devices when unsteady heat release is coupled with pressure perturbations. This effect results in excitation of eigen acoustic modes of the system. These instabilities are important in various technical applications, for instance, in rocket motors and thermoacoustic engines. A Rijke tube, representing a resonator with a mean flow and a concentrat...

Evolutionary Optimization of Feedback Controllers for Thermoacoustic Instabilities

We present the system identification and the online optimization of feedback controllers applied to combustion systems using evolutionary algorithms. The algorithm is applied to gas turbine combustors that are susceptible to thermoacoustic instabilities resulting in imperfect combustion and decreased lifetime. In order to mitigate these pressure oscillations, feedback controllers sense the pres...
