Insights on the capacity value of photovoltaics, community batteries and electric vehicles

The Capacity Value Ratio (CVR), or the part of its capacity that a technology can supply during peak residual load hours, is an important concept in context future resource adequacy. Especially for distributed resources, this still underexplored territory. In research, we investigate reduction potential on both distribution and transmission system level community battery coupled with photovoltaic (PV) systems as well smart charging approaches electric vehicles (EVs) vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology. On level, it shown batteries charged only PV-generated electricity reduce by 14.6%, whereas grid-charged 30.0%. It also found deploying V2G result decrease load, despite additional EV demand. CVR PV 0.6%, however, PV-charged 25.0% have 47.0%. approximation method used study generates similar results reliability-based methods literature. Regarding EVs, approximate shifting at 78.5% 8.9%. This indicates EVs could play role maintaining adequacy phase-out conventional power plants, given has priority optimization charging.
