Inorganic Agents for Enhanced Angiogenesis of Orthopedic Biomaterials

چکیده
Aseptic loosening of a permanent prosthesis remains one the most common reasons for bone implant failure. To improve fixation between and tissue as well enhance blood vessel formation, bioactive agents are incorporated into surface biomaterial. This study reviews compares five elements (copper, magnesium, silicon, strontium, zinc) with respect to their effect on angiogenic behavior endothelial cells (ECs) when biomaterials. Moreover, it provides an overview state-of-the-art methodologies used in vitro assessment properties these elements. Two databases searched using keywords containing ECs copper, zinc. After applying defined inclusion exclusion criteria, 59 articles retained final assessment. An methods potential is presented. The findings show that silicon strontium can effectively osseointegration through simultaneous promotion both angiogenesis osteogenesis. Therefore, integration onto biomaterials ultimately decrease incidence failure due aseptic loosening.

The objective of this research topic “Inorganic Biomaterials” within the scope of the article series “Bioengineering and Biotechnology” featured by the open access journal “Frontiers” was to present a comprehensive introduction to the field of inorganic bioactive biomaterials being considered for the replacement of hard tissues, in particular, bone tissue and related topics in bone tissue engin...
متن کاملStructural characterization of inorganic biomaterials.
Composite materials with unique architectures are ubiquitous in nature, e.g., marine shells, sponge spicules, bones, and dentine. These structured organic-inorganic systems are generated through self-assembly of organic matter (usually proteins or lipids) into scaffolds, onto which the inorganic component is deposited in organized hierarchical structures of sizes spanning several orders of magn...
متن کاملPlants as useful agents for angiogenesis and tumor growth prevention
Introduction: Angiogenesis, the process of new blood vessel formation from pre-existing vessels, has important physiological roles in embryonic development, female reproduction cycle, and wound healing. It is also crucial for pathological processes in several diseases especially tumor growth and metastasis. Thereby, inhibition of angiogenesis as an addition to the conventional therapies such...

UNLABELLED Orthopedic interface tissue engineering aims to mimic the structure and function of soft-to-hard tissue junctions, particularly bone-ligament, bone-tendon, and bone-cartilage interfaces. A range of engineering approaches has been proposed to mimic the gradient architecture, physical properties and chemical characteristics of interface tissues using conventional polymeric biomaterials...
متن کاملMgO Nanocomposites as Antibacterial Biomaterials for Orthopedic Tissue Engineering
Regeneration of complex orthopedic tissues (such as ligament, bone, and the tendon-to-bone insertion site) is problematic due to a lack of suitable biomaterials with the appropriate chemical and mechanical properties to elicit the formation of tissues with similar structure, organization, and functionality to natural tissues. Additionally, a non-trivial fraction of implanted biomaterials acquir...
