Injury Patterns and Treatment Outcome of Road Traffic Crash Victims at the Emergency Department of the Regional Hospital Limbe, Cameroon

Background: Traumatic injuries constitute a leading cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide with global burden that is on the rise. The aim this study to analyse preliminary data Limbe trauma registry, describe injury patterns determine outcome care injured who were treated in emergency department regional hospital Cameroon. Methodology: This was descriptive secondary analysis prospective collected at Regional Hospital two years, between October 2008 2010. All cases presenting included registry. Data pre-tested entry form age, sex, mechanism injury, delay before arrival hospital, body part injured, description lesions emergency. Descriptive analyses done using STATA 14. Comparisons groups evaluated Chi-squared test or Kruskal-Wallis p-values Results: A total 2400 recorded during period more males (68%) than females. ages ranged from 0 90 years peak 20 39 years. Road traffic crash most common representing 60.81% population (n = 1434); other causes burns, falls, domestic injuries, assaults, labour accidents. accidents mostly involved motor cycle alone (42.03%). Concerning department, 88.73% 1260) discharged. Conclusion: road south west Cameroon high. Motorcycles are pedestrians and/or cars.
