Alcohol-promoted ring-opening alkyne metathesis polymerization.
Alcohol is the answer! An inactive, air-stable, dimeric molybdenum alkylidyne complex is activated toward ring-opening alkyne metathesis polymerization (ROAMP) by the addition of methanol. The ROAMP is compatible with water and phenol-containing substrates and with the in situ photochemical generation of alkyne monomers from cyclopropenones.
متن کاملDesign of living ring-opening alkyne metathesis.
Despite the tremendous impact of alkene ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) on the design and the synthesis of polymers and functional materials, examples for the analogous alkyne ROMP remain scarce. This imbalance can be rationalized by the limited availability of commercially available catalysts and the lack of alkyne metathesis monomers. We present here the synthesis and a systemat...
متن کاملCatalytic living ring-opening metathesis polymerization.
In living ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP), a transition-metal-carbene complex polymerizes ring-strained olefins with very good control of the molecular weight of the resulting polymers. Because one molecule of the initiator is required for each polymer chain, however, this type of polymerization is expensive for widespread use. We have now designed a chain-transfer agent (CTA) cap...
متن کاملSupported Catalysts Useful in Ring-Closing Metathesis, Cross Metathesis, and Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization
Ruthenium and molybdenum catalysts are widely used in synthesis of both small molecules and macromolecules. While major developments have led to new increasingly active catalysts that have high functional group compatibility and stereoselectivity, catalyst/product separation, catalyst recycling, and/or catalyst residue/product separation remain an issue in some applications of these catalysts. ...
متن کاملBidentate Phenoxides as Ideal Activating Ligands for Living Ring- Opening Alkyne Metathesis Polymerization
We describe here a well-behaved initiator for ring-opening alkyne metathesis polymerization (ROAMP) of dibenzocyclooctynes. The reaction produces living polymers with low polydispersities and predictable molecular weights. We activate the well-known alkyne metathesis precatalyst, [(N(tBu)Ar)3MoCCH2CH3], with phenolic ligands that have σ-electron donating substituents. We show that the chelatin...
