Initial Cenozoic Exhumation of the Northern Chinese Tian Shan Deduced from Apatite (U-Th)/He Thermochronological Data

چکیده

Abstract The present topography of Tian Shan is related to the India-Asia collision, whereas mechanisms for topographic growth remain at center debate partly due poorly constrained onset timing Cenozoic tectonic deformation. Our new apatite (U-Th)/He (AHe) data in northern Chinese suggest that rapid cooling commenced 20.2±4.9 Ma along margin, which consistent with published fission-track from same area and confirms youngest component has been totally annealed. Moreover, AHe interior mountain enhanced began 28.0±2.3 Ma, slightly older than edge mountain. Although thermochronological both margin have undergone since late Oligocene-early Miocene, well preservation relict low-relief surfaces rim indicate may experienced differential exhumation Cenozoic. Combining geomorphological evidence, we propose a progressive northward model Shan. During Oligocene early compressive deformation derived collision arrived reactivate its while intense was concentrated range. Then, extended into foreland basin be initiated middle-late Miocene.

Patterns of Late Cenozoic exhumation deduced from apatite and zircon U-He ages from Fiordland, New Zealand

[1] New apatite and zircon (U-Th)/He ages from the Fiordland region of New Zealand’s South Island expand on earlier results and provide new constraints on patterns of Late Cenozoic exhumation and cooling across this region. Zircon (U-Th)/He cooling ages, in combination with increased density of apatite ages, show that in addition to a gradual northward decrease in cooling ages that was seen dur...

The Mesozoic palaeorelief of the northern Tian Shan (China)

The Tian Shan range offers a natural laboratory to study orogenic processes. Most of the previous studies focused on either the Paleozoic evolution of the range or its Cenozoic intracontinental evolution linked with the India-Asia collision. In this study, detailed field investigations on the relationship between sedimentary cover and basement constrain the Mesozoic evolution of the northern Ti...

Magnetochronology of the Upper Cenozoic strata in the Southwestern Chinese Tian Shan: rates of Pleistocene folding and thrusting

The southwestern Chinese Tian Shan of Central Asia is an actively deforming part of the Indian^Asian collision system. Paleomagnetic investigations of two Plio^Pleistocene terrestrial successions provide the first detailed magnetostratigraphy for the upper Cenozoic strata in this region. Paleomagnetic samples were collected from 358 sites within the Atushi Formation and Xiyu Formation across th...

Exhumation of the central Wasatch Mountains, Utah: 1. Patterns and timing of exhumation deduced from low-temperature thermochronology data

[1] The Wasatch Mountains are often cited as an example of normal fault growth and footwall flexure. They represent a tilted footwall at the edge of the Basin and Range extensional province, a major rift basin. Thus understanding the detailed spatial and elevation changes in coupled thermochronometer data, and how these changes can be interpreted, may aid in the analysis of thermochronometer da...

Cooling history and exhumation of the nepheline syenites, NW Iran: constraints from apatite fission track

Thermal history and apatite fission-track ages were determined for the Kaleybar, Razgah and Bozqush alkaline intrusions which display Eocene-Oligocene stratigraphic age. These subduction-related intrusions are located in the Alborz-Azarbaijan magmatic belt which is characterized by a Paleogene magmatic flare-up associated with extensional/transtensional tectonism. The mean of Uranium content an...
