Human Parainfluenza Virus Type 3 in Wild Nonhuman Primates, Zambia
Human parainfluenza virus type 3 (HPIV3) genome was detected in 4 baboons in Zambia. Antibody for HPIV3 was detected in 13 baboons and 6 vervet monkeys in 2 distinct areas in Zambia. Our findings suggest that wild nonhuman primates are susceptible to HPIV3 infection.
متن کاملInhibition of herpes simplex virus type 1 infection by Sambucus ebulus extract in vitro
Background: The emergence of drug-resistant strains of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) has been increasingly reported. Therefore, attempts to discover new antiviral agents in particular from natural compounds are required. In this study, we evaluated the possible inhibitory effects of hydroalcoholic extract of Sambucus ebulus (S. ebulus) against HSV-1. Methods: S. ebulus extract was pro...
متن کاملInhibition of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 integrase by 3'-azido-3'-deoxythymidylate.
The effects of 3'-azido-3'-deoxythymidine (AZT) and three of its intracellular metabolites, azido- thymidine mono-, di-, and triphosphates, on the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 integrase have been determined. AZT mono-, di-, and triphosphate have an IC50 for integration between 110 and 150 microM, whereas AZT does not inhibit the integrase. The inhibition by AZT monophosphate can be parti...
متن کاملThe Probiotic Mixture VSL#3 Dampens LPS-Induced Chemokine Expression in Human Dendritic Cells by Inhibition of STAT-1 Phosphorylation
VSL#3, a mixture of 8 different probiotic bacteria, has successfully been used in the clinic to treat Ulcerative Colitis. We previously identified the modulation of chemokines as a major mechanism in the protective effect of the VSL#3 in a mouse model of colitis. This was supported by in vitro studies that implicated a role for VSL#3 in the suppression of LPS-induced chemokine production by mou...
متن کاملFilamentous particle formation by human parainfluenza virus type 2.
Some paramyxoviruses form long filamentous virus particles: however, the determinants of filament formation and the role of such particles in virus transmission and pathogenicity are not clearly defined. By using conventional immunofluorescence microscopy, we found that human parainfluenza virus type 2 (HPIV2) forms filamentous particles ranging from 5 to 15 microm in length in virus-infected, ...
