Abstract Key message Larger differences of maximum load among families were found in mature wood compared to juvenile wood, suggesting the possibility improving with higher resistance rupture and maintaining characteristics material Larix kaempferi (Lamb.) Carr. by selecting specific mating parents. Context Because from L. trees is used for construction lumber, properties bending should be focused on as targeted traits tree breeding programs. Aims We clarified radial variation inheritance classified features . Methods Annual ring width, latewood percentage, air-dry density, microfibril angle, modulus elasticity, rupture, work at five positions investigated 15 full-sib 36-year-old grown two progeny test sites Japan. Results Higher heritability almost all was density. Phenotypic genetic correlations between density showed relatively values positions. Load-deflection curves could divided into three groups wood. Variation load-deflection larger than that Conclusion Air-dry can a criterion select superior properties. Mature effectively improved individuals.
