Influencing Pedestrians’ Route Choice Using Route Shape Simplification
نویسندگان
چکیده
Pedestrians’ route choice is critical for several purposes, while deliberately changing map representations can influence users’ choice. Simplifying routes’ geometric shapes one way to achieve this. However, the other characteristics of routes (e.g., relative distance different routes, differences in initial orientation, number intersections, and direction changes) also pedestrians’ choice, per relevant research. Hence, this study conducted an experimental investigation examine shape simplification on under various conditions. The results statistical tests correlation analyses showed that (1) has a significant choice; (2) larger changes reduce simplification’s influence, intersections orientation have weak effects; (3) 1.3 times may be threshold selection recommended improvement visual continuity at nodes prove more influential. support applicability

Pedestrians' Route Choice Model for Shopping Behavior
This paper presents an agent-based model to address the pedestrian route choice problem in shopping malls. Route choice in shopping malls may be defined by a number of causal factors. Shoppers may follow a pre-defined schedule, they may be influenced by other people walking, or may want to get a glimpse of a familiar shopping. The route choice process assumes that the cost of each route can be ...
متن کاملRoute Choice in Road Networks - Observing and Modelling Route Choice
Until now transport planners and modellers have little information on the actual route choice in road networks as route choice is difficult to observe. The paper presents various techniques for observing route choice (floating car data, mobile phone data, automatic number plate recognition systems, bluetooth detection) and shows results of route choice observations. Based on the analysis of the...
متن کاملCommuters route choice behaviour
The paper reports laboratory experiments with a two route choice scenario. In each session 18 subjects had to choose between a main road M and a side road S. The capacity of M was larger. Feedback was given in treatment I only on the subjects’ own travel time and in treatment II on travel time for M and S. The main results are as follows: • Mean numbers on M and S are near to pure equilibrium. ...
متن کاملMinimising Regret in Route Choice
The use of reinforcement learning (RL) in multiagent scenarios is challenging. I consider the route choice problem, where drivers must choose routes that minimise their travel times. Here, selfish RL-agents must adapt to each others’ decisions. In this work, I show how the agents can learn (with performance guarantees) by minimising the regret associated with their decisions, thus achieving the...
متن کاملRoute Choice in Hilly Terrain
The orienteering route choice problem involves finding the fastest route between two given points, with running speed determined by various properties of the terrain. In this study we consider only the effect of climbing or descent on running speed. If a runner’s pace p (the reciprocal of running speed) varies linearly with gradient m, the straight-line route is always fastest. This may be a re...
