Influence of Weathering on Pore Size Distribution of Soft Rocks

چکیده
Abstract Soft rocks can weather and lose their structure within a short time due to drying out rewetting. Thus they are very sensitive weathering. Since these often found in the shallow subsurface, of great practical relevance foundation constructions. The rock properties change during weathering process. Particularly relevant is softening material decrease its mechanical properties, which determined typically using laboratory or field tests. objective this study examine more detail how microstructure changes over course weathering, results properties. Sulfate Grabfeld-Formation Stuttgart, Germany were investigated. Using XRD analyses it was revealed that initially chemical processes occurs whereby leach out, followed by physical Investigations with mercury porosimeter showed intraaggregate pore content greatly increases, whereas proportion interaggregate pores only slightly increases.

Investigation of Activation Time on Pore Size Distribution of Activated Carbon Determined with Different Methods
Three activated carbons are synthesized in a rotary reactor at different activation times. The adsorption isotherms of the samples are measured The pore size distribution of the samples is determined using combined Saito and Foley method, BJH method. An average potential function has been determined inside the cylindrical pores. The effect of activation time on the pore size distribution sample...
متن کاملDiffusivity of rocks: Gas diffusion measurements and correlation to porosity and pore size distribution
[1] Diffusivity was measured for 12 rock and construction material samples using a diffusion chamber method with oxygen as the tracer gas. Several steps were implemented to minimize leakage between the sample and the core holder, and rigorous tests were performed to evaluate and correct the overall leakage of the diffusion apparatus. This method was proven capable of rapidly measuring the diffu...
متن کاملThe effect of cyclic salt weathering test on deterioration potential of granitoid rocks
In this study, the salt weathering effects on engineering properties and weight loss potential of three types of granitoid rocks were investigated. Sodium and magnesium sulfates tests were performed on core and aggregate samples. The cyclic salt weathering tests on core samples were done up to 90 cycles, while these tests on aggregate samples were done up to 40 cycles. The results showed that d...
متن کاملInfluence of adsorbed polyelectrolytes on pore size distribution of a water-swollen biomaterial†
Many biomaterials exhibit pronounced swelling and consequently pronounced porous structure when exposed to water. Characterization and tuning of the porosity are important for the fundamental understanding of the behaviour of the biomaterials as well as for many of their applications, both traditional and novel. Here, the porous structure of cellulosic fibres (chemical wood pulp) was analysed i...
