Influence of Superabsorbent Polymer in Self-Compacting Mortar

Self-compacting concrete (SCC) is an innovative type of that does not require vibration for compaction; however, it needs attention in relation to the control thermally generated cracks, due hydration heat mainly during curing process pieces with large volume. In this study we investigated addition Superabsorbent Polymers (SAP) as internal elements self-compacting mortar (SCM), well its thermal and mechanical characteristics, looking obtain optimal proportion materials a way useful basis use, focusing on volume structures. This work stands out studying alternative shrinkage control, unconventional cementitious composite, highlighting analysis mixture. experimental program, laboratory trials were conducted using 0%, 0.1%, 0.2% SAP either CPII-E-32 CPV-ARI samples undergoing both dry submerged curing. Among results obtained, reduction variation temperature added stand out, possible presume being viable mitigating spikes parts. By contrast, compression tensile tests indicated reduced strength, except trial CPII-E-32, which resulted increase strength.
