Influence of Substitutional Defects in ZIF-8 Membranes on Reverse Osmosis Desalination: A Molecular Dynamics Study

چکیده

In this study, molecular dynamics simulation is used to investigate the effects of water-based substitutional defects in zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIF)-8 membranes on their reverse osmosis (RO) desalination performance. ZIF-8 unit cells containing up three defect sites are construct membranes. These can either be Zn or linker defects. The RO performance assessed terms water flux and ion rejection rate. interactions between NaCl investigated explained with respect radial distribution function (RDF) density distribution. results show that adsorption occurs at nitrogen atoms sites. Complete achieved by introducing change size pores. It has also been discovered presence increases membrane hydrophilicity. Overall, simulations have study a structure reduce influence its hydrophilicity performance, which useful predicting type number per cell required for applications. Of seven structures tested, pristine exhibits best

A numerical study of fractional order reverse osmosis desalination model using Legendre wavelet approximation

The purpose of this study is to develop a new approach in modeling and simulation of a reverse osmosis desalination system by using fractional differential equations. Using the Legendre wavelet method combined with the decoupling and quasi-linearization technique, we demonstrate the validity and applicability of our model. Examples are developed to illustrate the fractional differential techniq...

Dynamics of water and solute transport in polymeric reverse osmosis membranes via molecular dynamics simulations

The Ångström-scale transport characteristics of water and six different solutes, methanol, ethanol, 2propanol, urea, Na+, and Cl-, were studied for a polymeric reverse osmosis (RO) membrane, FT-30, using non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulations. Results indicate that water transport increases with an increasing fraction of percolated free volume, or water-accessible open space, in ...

Performance Study of Reverse Osmosis Plants for Water Desalination in Bandar-Lengeh, Iran

Introduction: Reverse osmosis (RO) is best known for its use in desalination (removing the salt from seawater to get fresh water), but since the early 1970s it has also been used to purify fresh water for medical, industrial, and domestic applications. The aim of this research was the performance study of reverse osmosis plants for water desalination in Bandar-Lengeh, Iran. Materials and Meth...

Novel Membrane Materials for Reverse Osmosis Desalination

The use of solvents in desalination processes limits the use of certain materials in the construction of the reverse osmosis membranes. Therefore now the research effort has focused on improving new materials. In particular, nanostructured materials will probably form the basis for new reverse osmosis membrane materials. This study makes a review of the new materials used for the construction o...

Seawater Desalination by using Nanofiltration (NF) and Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) Membranes in Sequential Mode of Operation

In this study, the applicability of nanofiltration (NF) membranes as a pretreatment prior to reverse osmosis (RO) in seawater desalination was investigated. The membranes used wereNF270 and NF90 as the NF membranes, while the brackish water (BW) RO membrane BW30 was used as the RO membrane. In desalination tests, permeates of the NF membraneswere collected and used as the feed to th...
