Influence of orographic precipitation on coevolving landforms and vegetation in semi?arid ecosystems

چکیده
Topography affects the intensity and spatial distribution of precipitation due to orographic lifting mechanisms and, in turn, influences prevailing climate vegetation distribution. Previous modelling studies on impact landform evolution have considered bare soil conditions. However, research effect changes regimes induced by elevation gradients (particularly aspect-controlled semi-arid ecosystems) patterns, trying understand feedbacks consequences for coevolving vegetation, has been limited. In this study, Channel–Hillslope Integrated Landscape Development (CHILD) landscape model coupled with dynamics Bucket Grassland Model (BGM) is used analyse coevolution landform–vegetation ecosystems. The CHILD+BGM run under different combinations solar radiation settings. Three settings, including uniform, control, control precipitation, are combination spatially uniform varied Based results, aspect, drainage network identified as major drivers cover landscapes. Further, created highest asymmetry divide migration emergence gentler slopes windward than leeward sides domain. outcomes from study indicate that aspect plays a key role generation topographic

■ Abstract The influence of surface orography on patterns of precipitation gives rise to some of the most pronounced climate gradients on Earth, and plays a fundamental role in the interaction between the atmosphere and the rest of the Earth System on a wide variety of time scales. The physical mechanisms involved comprise a rich set of interactions encompassing fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, ...

since the 1960s the age effects on learning both first and second language have been explored by many linguists and applied linguists (e.g lennerberg, 1967; schachter, 1996; long, 1990) and the existence of critical period for language acquisition was found to be a common ground of all these studies. in spite of some common findings, some issues about the impacts of age on acquiring a second or...

Frost boils in northern Alaska vary from large, 2–3-m diameter, barren non-sorted circles to completely vegetated hummocks. Summer warmth increases southwards from the coast. Average thaw-layer thickness shows the opposite trend. Frost heave shows no trend along the climate gradient but is affected by soil texture. Heave is greatest on frost boils with fine-grained sediments. Biomass increases ...
