Influence of electrodeposition regime and Sn:Pd ratios in Sn-Pd electrocatalysts on ethanol oxidation reaction

A series of bimetallic Sn-Pd catalysts were prepared by a template-free two step electrodeposition method. According to this method, Sn was electrodeposited firstly in potentiostatic or galvanostatic regime on Cu electrodes the form dendrites, then Pd galvanostatically second electrode with dendrites. The produced electrocatalysts compared an electrocatalyst obtained bare electrode. morphological and elemental analysis performed means scanning electron microscopy (SEM) energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) techniques. dendrites various shapes degree branching deposition depending regime, while compact islands both Cyclic voltammetry (CV) applied for electrochemical examination towards ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR) alkaline solution. Sn0.6-Pd0.4 atomic ratio 60 at.% Sn-40 showed higher efficiency better tolerance intermediate species EOR than other examined . It shown that lower fraction Pd, relative Sn, crucial achieving optimal synergy thus contributing enhanced behavior regarding EOR.
