Influence of convective heat transfer modelling in CFD simulations of upward flame spread

چکیده
Focusing on convective heat transfer modelling upward flame spread scenarios, different methods for calculating the fluxes are explored. These approaches involve: 1) based stagnant film theory; 2) using a simplified approach 3) Nusselt correlations natural convection; and 4) convection effective (i.e., laminar plus sgs) thermal diffusivity. Large eddy simulations (LES) of series Single Burning Item (SBI) experiments with Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) plywood walls performed. Even though discrepancies observed, which considered sgs effects performs overall better is able to predict both initial growth period decay phase reasonable accuracy deviations in peak HRR approximately 5% 34% MDF tests cases, respectively). The predicted total are, most fairly good agreement up 15% 20% predictions other far less satisfactory. Overall, it demonstrated that accurate can be important scenarios.

A Cellular Automata Approach to CFD Flame Spread Modelling
This paper focuses on the growth and spread stage of full-scale fires in enclosures, where a localised flame spreads across a single fuel item, increasing the heat release rate, thereby resulting in increased fire hazard. The development of a numerical model for fire spread over a solid fuel surface, and its integration into a CFD model, is described. The conflicting demands of resolving the sm...
متن کاملDetermination of surface convective heat transfer coefficients by CFD
Heat and vapour convective surface coefficients are required in practically all heat and vapour transport calculations. In building envelope research, such coefficients are often assumed constants for a set of conditions. Heat transfer surface coefficients are often determined using empirical correlations based on measurements of different geometry and flows. Vapour transfer surface coefficient...

متن کاملConvective heat transfer coefficients for exterior building surfaces: Existing correlations and CFD modelling
Convective heat transfer at exterior building surfaces has an impact on the design and performance of building components such as double-skin facades, solar collectors, solar chimneys, ventilated photovoltaic arrays, etc. and also affects the thermal climate and cooling load in urban areas. In this study, an overview is given of existing correlations of the exterior convective heat transfer coe...
