Infill shape effects on bending stiffness of additively manufactured short fibre reinforced polymer sandwich specimens

چکیده
Additively manufactured polymer parts are often designed like composite sandwich structures. In this work, beam-like specimens with hexagonal, triangular and rectangular infills were different infill densities. An influence of the shape on overall stiffness was observed. The bending hexagonal between 13% 25% lower than that other two cases instead showed similar performances. Numerical simulations performed using both shell solid elements for infill, to check if it possible model differences observed experimentally. All lead accurate predictions, except higher densities, which overprediction 20% obtained. Based these results, strategies finite element analysis additively structures discussed.

Natural Fibre Reinforced Biodegradable Polymer Composites
Currently, numerous research groups have explored the production and properties of biocomposites where the polymer matrices are derived from renewable resources such as poly lactide (PLA), thermoplastic starch (TPS), cellulose and polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). This review is carried out to evaluate the development and properties of natural fibre reinforced biodegradable polymer composites. They...
متن کاملModelling the Nonlinear Response of Fibre-reinforced Bending Fluidic Actuators
Soft actuators are receiving increasing attention from the engineering community, not only in research but even for industrial applications. Among soft actuators, fibre-reinforced Bending Fluidic Actuators (BFAs) became very popular thanks to features such as robustness and easy design and fabrication. However, an accurate modelling of these smart structures, taking into account all the nonline...
متن کاملCoupled Bending-Longitudinal Vibration of Three Layer Sandwich Beam using Exact Dynamic Stiffness Matrix
A Newtonian (vectorial) approach is used to develop the governing differential equations of motion for a three layer sandwich beam in which the uniform distribution of mass and stiffness is dealt with exactly. The model allows for each layer of material to be of unequal thickness and the effects of coupled bending and longitudinal motion are accounted for. This results in an eighth order ordina...
متن کاملFatigue behaviour of short fibre reinforced polyamide: morphological and numerical analysis of fibre orientation effects
The fatigue behaviour of injection moulded short fibre reinforced polymers depends upon fibre orientation, as shown in experiments conducted with notched specimens injected through different injection gates. The different fatigue behaviour is related to the different local elastic properties, as determined by the different fibre orientation patterns, resulting into different strain distribution...
متن کاملMechanical Properties of Additively Manufactured Thick Honeycombs
Honeycombs resemble the structure of a number of natural and biological materials such as cancellous bone, wood, and cork. Thick honeycomb could be also used for energy absorption applications. Moreover, studying the mechanical behavior of honeycombs under in-plane loading could help understanding the mechanical behavior of more complex 3D tessellated structures such as porous biomaterials. In ...
