Wound infections caused by Vibrio vulnificus and other marine bacteria.
Infections caused by Vibrio vulnificus were first reported in 1979 by Blake et al. of the US Centers for Disease Control. At that time described as a 'rare, unnamed halophilic lactose-fermenting Vibrio species', V. vulnificus has emerged as the most virulent foodborne pathogen in the United States with a hospitalization rate of 0.910 and a case-fatality rate of 0.390. It is in addition a signif...

متن کاملSevere human infections caused by Vibrio metschnikovii.
Vibrio metschnikovii is largely distributed in the aquatic environment; human infections are rarely observed. A fatal case of septicemia in a patient with liver cirrhosis, renal insufficiency, and diabetes is described. A second case in a 82-year-old woman with septicemia, respiratory problems, and infected leg lesions is reported; she was successfully treated.

Article history: Received on: 11/04/2016 Revised on: 09/05/2016 Accepted on: 24/06/2016 Available online: 29/10/2016 Drug resistance in microorganisms is an emerging phenomenon that poses challenges to public health and treatment. The reservoir of drug resistance genes found in the resistome of environmental isolates in aquatic saline systems has been augmenting continuously. The spread of drug...
متن کاملManagement of infections caused by vancomycin-resistant gram-positive bacteria.
For 3 decades, vancomycin has been a favored therapy for serious penicillinand cephalosporin-resistant Gram-positive bacterial infections. Development of vancomycin resistance may have been restrained by the requirement for intravenous administration, which limited its use and lessened exposure to the gastrointestinal flora. Nevertheless, physicians are increasingly encountering children and ad...
