چکیده

Newborn infants at risk for hypoglycemia are typically managed with feedings or the administration of dextrose gel. Despite these measures, many require admission to a special care nursery neonatal intensive unit (NICU) intravenous dextrose. Unfortunately, NICU separates mothers and infants, may lead unintended consequence difficulties in establishing breastfeeding. Therefore, it is important investigate methods management that decrease separation reinforce In this volume The Journal Pediatrics, Sen et al describe shorter stays after protocol change utilized glucose levels titrate initial dose hypoglycemia. As study was not clinical trial, more research on safety effectiveness approach needed support translation into widespread practice. However, results will be good news neonatologists who struggle consequences when otherwise healthy newborn brought low blood sugar. BACKGROUND Newborn infants with risk factors may require intravenous (IV) dextrose for asymptomatic hypoglycemia. Administration of IV dextrose and transfer to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) may interfere with parent-infant bonding. OBJECTIVE To study the effect of implementing dextrose gel supplement with feeds in late preterm/term infants affected by asymptomatic hypoglycemia on re...
