Individual variation influences avoidance behaviour of invasive common carp (

چکیده

Uncontrolled biological invasions are reducing freshwater ecosystem diversity and resilience. Research is needed to evaluate whether non-structural deterrents feasible within lock or canal environments. This study examined common carp (Cyprinus carpio) buffalo hybrid (Ictiobus) movement patterns in response acoustic stroboscopic deterrents. Twelve strobe lights one underwater speaker were deployed across the centre of a ship slip, with an environment analogous navigation canal. Common (n = 6) Ictiobus 4) implanted telemetry tags, their behaviours under control, stroboscopic, stimuli for 60-min trial periods. Trials run during day night six straight days. Linear models determined that altered fish positioning but produced weaker avoidance responses than those observed elsewhere. Weak likely due strong preference open end slip lack refuge treatment. Avoidance also differed widely among individuals same species, expressing repeatability radius size trials. Ambient stimulus sound-pressure levels should be carefully considered when deploying

Individual differences in approach and avoidance movements: how the avoidance motive influences response force.

The present research is based on the assumption that people differ in their responsiveness to incentives and threats. In two experiments we examined whether the trait corresponding to the responsiveness to threats (avoidance motive) and the trait corresponding to the responsiveness to incentives (approach motive) influence voluntary motor behavior toward or away from stimuli. In Experiment 1, s...

Common Carp, Cyprinus carpio

The common carp (Cyprinus carpio) belongs to the family Cyprinidae. In nature, carp live in the middle or lower reaches of a river with slow currents, or in marshes. Their habitats are usually weedy areas with a muddy bottom. Carp fry feed on zooplankton such as rotifers and copepods, but as they grow up they become benthic feeders, feeding on animals and other organic material. The cyprinids h...

Inter-individual variation in expression of maternal behaviour in sheep

At birth, ewes rapidly form a selective attachment to their offspring and subsequently restrict maternal care to their own lambs. This attachment occurs during a period of intense maternal licking of the offspring, accompanied by frequent low pitched bleats (a specific maternal vocalisation). Maternal licking wanes over the first day of life and thereafter maternal behaviour is expressed as a c...

Sci., 16: 263-265 The common carp (Cyprinus carpio) originating from Serbian fish ponds was examined for presence of Myxobolus encephalicus. The spores of M. encephalicus were present in blood vessels and meningeal layers. Its presence has been noted in 32-days old carp fingerlings...
