Individual Parental Leave for Fathers: Promoting Gender Equality in Norway

Abstract This chapter takes as its point of departure the design elements Norwegian parental leave system for fathers and examines how it works a regulatory measure to promote equality in care work. The findings show that father’s quota statutory, earmarked, non-transferrable right promotes fathers’ use hence equality. earmarking, fact cannot be transferred mother, renders unnecessary negotiate with mother about this leave. is also an important bargaining chip relation working life having time off doing care-work. These support other research on which have shown these characteristics represents strong incentive greater involvement caregiving part fathers.
