The Structural-Dynamic Organization and Trends of Forests Reconstitution in the South-Western Pre-Baikal (Irkutsk Region, Siberia)

At the territories of three key sites with different environmental conditions (coast of Irkutsk Reservoir, the Goloustnaya River basin, surroundings of Gakhany settlement in 60 km northward from the urbanized area Ust’-Orda, Irkutsk Region), we performed studies aimed to reveal the structural-dynamic organization and trends of forests reconstitution at the places of burnt areas and of cuttings ...

Palynological study of Lake Kotokel’ bottom sediments (Lake Baikal region)

Pollen and AMSC analyses of bottom sediments from the upper nine meters of the Lake Kotokel’ section were carried out. The regional climate and landscape dynamics during the Late Glacial and Holocene has been reconstructed with an average time resolution of ~120 years. It is shown that the climatic conditions in the Kotokel’ basin during Termination I (~15.5–11 ka) were characterized by short d...

Population genetics and structure of Buryats from the Lake Baikal Region of Siberia.

Genetic polymorphisms of blood groups, serum proteins, red cell enzymes, PTC tasting, and cerumen types are reported for five Mongoloid populations of Buryats from the Lake Baikal region of Siberia (Russia). These groups are characterized by relatively high frequencies of alleles ABO*B, RH*D, cerumen D, GC*1F, ACP1*B, ESD*2, and PGD*C. Significant genetic heterogeneity between populations was d...

Genotyping Echinococcus granulosus from dogs from Western Iran.

Cystic echinococcosis is a zoonotic infection caused by the dog tapeworm, Echinococcus granulosus. In the present study, adults of E. granulosus (n=20) were collected from 71 dogs from Western Iran and were genetically characterized using DNA sequencing of the partial mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) and NADH dehydrogenase 1 (nad1). Consensus sequences were obtained for cox1 ...

Air-quality modelling in the Lake Baikal region.

In this paper, we assess the status of the air quality in the Lake Baikal region which is strongly influenced by the presence of anthropogenic pollution sources. We combined the local data, with global databases, remote sensing imagery and modelling tools. This approach allows to inventorise the air-polluting sources and to quantify the air-quality concentration levels in the Lake Baikal region...
