Increment in hemoglobin and hematocrit levels after blood transfusion in a tertiary care hospital

Background: Blood transfusion is considered to be the first line of therapy for all types anemia. One unit blood known increase hemoglobin level by 1g/dl and hematocrit 3%. This study aims analyze mean increment in levels after 1-unit a tertiary care hospital. Materials Methods: A retrospective was done. 133 patients with (whole or packed red cells)having pre post-transfusion values were enrolled study. Results: Patients diagnoses, who received enrolled, highest proportion (27.1%) age group 18-35 years. Male predominance seen (57.1%) majority on hemodialysis (57.9%). The most common B positive (30%) 90.9% Rh positive. 48 transfused whole 85 cells. 0.75 ± 2.21 2.47 6.84 respectively. significant parameters compared pre-transfusion (p <0.001). Conclusions: transfusion. However, value low our as literature. may due varied reasons, ranging from history chronic disease, acute bleeding, volume other fluids administered, characteristics donor.
