Increasing the value of quality management systems

Purpose Over one million organisations have a quality management system (QMS) certified to the ISO 9001 standard; however, requires lot of resources and its value has been questioned. This critique also leads questioning strategic relevance management. The purpose this paper is explore how different types uses QMS correlate with perceptions in terms respect, cost importance. Design/methodology/approach based on mixed method data collection strategy, quantitative being collected from survey 8 ( n = 108) qualitative 12 interviews managers organisations. Findings shows that compliance-oriented usage will more likely lead view as costly little than business or improvement-oriented usage. Moreover, it nuances usage, showing mainly documentation negatively influences views management, whereas standardisation part use perceived value-adding. Originality/value suggests three use, namely, improvement, wise selection affect importance associates
