Increased urinary excretion of acidic mucopolysaccharides in exophthalmos.
The excretion of mucopolysaccharides normally found in urine (chondroitin, chondroitin sulfates A and C, keratosulfate, and heparitin sulfate) is increased approximately twofold in patients with progresive exophthalmos. A threefold elevation of total serum mucopolysaccharides is also found. These increases are unrelated to thyroid function.
متن کاملUrinary Excretion of Acid Mucopolysaccharides by Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis'
Several methods have been described for the determination of urinary acid mucopolysaccharides (1-4). It has been found that in normal individuals the daily urinary excretion varies with age and sex (4, 5). A few attempts have been made to correlate urinary excretion of acid mucopolysaccharides with different disease states. Craddock and Kerby (6) have reported that patients with impairment of r...

متن کاملBinding of aminoglycoside antibiotics to acidic mucopolysaccharides.
Binding of aminoglycoside antibiotics to acidic mucopolysaccharides has been studied by means of physicochemical methods. Reactivity was affected markedly by the ionic environment , e.g. pH and ionic strength of the medium, the concentrations and the molar ratios of the constituents. The ionic character of binding was further confirmed by gel chromatography. The reduction of metachromasis by an...
متن کاملIncreased urinary excretion of keratan sulfate in fucosidosis.
In two children exhibiting the clinical symptoms of fucosidosis, the diagnosis was biochemically ascertained by the demonstration of a profound altpha-L-fucosidase deficiency in cultured skin fibroblasts. The non-dialysed urines of these fucosidosis patients were separated into two fractions by chromatography on Biogel P-2. The first fraction containing the glycosaminoglycans was further fracti...
