Incorporating the Benefits of Geosynthetic into MEPDG

One of the most effective ways to increase longevity pavement structures is through integration geosynthetic reinforcement. Geosynthetics are synthetic materials such as geotextiles, geogrids, or geocomposites that added interface between subgrade and base layer a structure. To evaluate effect various parameters on structural benefits reinforcement structure low-volume traffic flexible pavements, finite element (FE) study was performed using ABAQUS program. These included type, tensile stiffness, thickness. The FE rutting curves for 100 cycles were calibrated mechanistic–empirical (M-E) transfer functions, which then used calculate long-term curves. benefit ratio (TBR) initially calculated based each layer. TBRs an input in AASHTOWare compute resilient modulus (MR-eff) factor course reduction (BCR). results showed adding one geosynthetics enhanced performance significantly (up 8.9 TBR, 322% MR-eff, 64% BCR). Geogrids higher than geotextiles due interlocking aggregates geogrid aperture. values BCR with increasing stiffness target decreasing stiffness. also demonstrated peak thickness 25.4 cm.
