Incongruent latitudinal patterns of taxonomic, phylogenetic and functional diversity reveal different drivers of caddisfly community assembly across spatial scales

چکیده
Aim Community assembly processes are difficult to observe in nature but can be inferred from species diversity patterns. However, taxonomic patterns may consistent with multiple explanations, such as habitat filtering or biogeographical processes, which also act differently across spatial scales. Here, we assessed facets of determine the relative contributions local versus regional and historical contemporary factors establishing macroecological Location From Mediterranean peninsulas northern Scandinavia. Time period Species occurrence data gathered since c. 1980. Major organism group studied Trichoptera (Insecta). Methods Based on an extensive functional space a phylogenetic tree including 197 509 species, respectively, composition 180 communities, distribution taxonomic, within 18 ecoregions (local α- β-diversity) among those (regional γ- β-diversity). Results Local estimates β-diversity were similar Europe, reveals that all streams have carrying capacity even though abiotic involved likely different ecoregions. In contrast, diversities decreased latitude increased, whereas richness dispersion displayed unimodal relationships. The position was not conserved, while pools found phylogenetically clustered southern ones overdispersed. nestedness component mainly contributed latitudes turnover dominant. Main conclusions Decoupled latitudinal reveal importance environmental over limiting range shaping pool. signature is still present; recolonizations following Pleistocene glaciations originated exclusively central regions, instead refugia, previously accepted.

Functional trait and phylogenetic tests of community assembly across spatial scales in an Amazonian forest
Despite a long history of the study of tropical forests, uncertainty about the importance of different ecological processes in shaping tropical tree species distributions persists. Traitand phylogenetic-based tests of community assembly provide a powerful way to detect community assembly processes but have seldom been applied to the same community. Both methods are well suited to testing how th...
متن کاملPhylogenetic and morphological relationships between nonvolant small mammals reveal assembly processes at different spatial scales
The relative roles of historical processes, environmental filtering, and ecological interactions in the organization of species assemblages vary depending on the spatial scale. We evaluated the phylogenetic and morphological relationships between species and individuals (i.e., inter- and intraspecific variability) of Neotropical nonvolant small mammals coexisting in grassland-forest ecotones, i...
متن کاملSpatial patterns of phylogenetic diversity
Ecologists and conservation biologists have historically used species-area and distance-decay relationships as tools to predict the spatial distribution of biodiversity and the impact of habitat loss on biodiversity. These tools treat each species as evolutionarily equivalent, yet the importance of species' evolutionary history in their ecology and conservation is becoming increasingly evident....
