Autoresonant propagation of incoherent light-waves.
We study, theoretically and experimentally, the evolution of optical waves with randomly-fluctuating phases in a spatially chirped nonlinear directional coupler. As the system crosses its linear resonance, we observe collective self-phase-locking (autoresonance) of all mutually-incoherent waves, each with its own pump, and simultaneous amplification until the pumps are exhausted. We show that t...
متن کاملScattering of Electromagnetic Waves by Electron Acoustic Waves
-It is shown that a large amplitude electromagnetic wave can parametrically excite low-frequency electrostatic modified electron acoustic waves which are unique to three-component plasmas containing ions, hot electrons and a group of cold electrons. The growth rates and thresholds of the decay instabilities are obtained. Application of our results in the auroral region of the ionosphere is illu...
متن کاملElectron acoustic solitary waves with non-thermal distribution of electrons
Electron-acoustic solitary waves are studied in an unmagnetized plasma consisting of non-thermally distributed electrons, fluid cold electrons and ions. The Sagdeev pseudo-potential technique is used to carry out the analysis. The presence of non-thermal electrons modifies the parametric region where electron acoustic solitons can exist. For parameters representative of auroral zone field lines...
متن کاملLinear and Nonlinear Dust Acoustic Waves in Quantum Dusty Electron-Positron-Ion Plasma
The behavior of linear and nonlinear dust acoustic waves (DAWs) in an unmagnetized plasma including inertialess electrons and positrons, ions, and mobile positive/negative dust grains are studied. Reductive perturbation method is employed for small and finite amplitude DAWs. To investigate the solitary waves, the Korteweg–de Vries (KdV) equation is derived and the solution is presented. B...
متن کاملExperimental Investigation of Electron-Acoustic Waves in Electron Plasmas
Electron-acoustic waves have strong linear Landau damping, but are observed as nonlinear BGK modes in experiments with pure electron plasmas. The waves have phase velocity vφ ≈ 1.3v̄, in agreement with theory, and the longest wavelength BGK states exhibit only relatively weak damping. Shorter wavelength modes exhibit a strong decay instability which can be experimentally controlled.
