Inclined loading of horizontal plate anchors in sand

چکیده

The performance of plate anchors in sand, relative to clay, is not well understood, particularly for the more realistic case an inclined load. This paper investigates effect load inclination on horizontal sand through centrifuge tests and numerical finite-element simulations. were performed rectangular loose dense at shallow embedment depths with four different inclinations. experiments showed that anchor capacity plates increased progressively as became horizontal, under pure loading being approximately 1·8 times higher than vertical loading. These experimental observations also replicated simulations using a bounding surface plasticity model. Investigation underlying failure mechanisms stress paths slip planes become longer mobilised lateral stresses increase becomes increasingly which leads capacities. Finally, resistance factors from analyses decoupled into components represented interaction diagrams, providing basis performing hand calculations given depth, density.

A Study on Load Capacity of Horizontal and Inclined Plate Anchors in Sandy Soils

Foundations of structures which are subjected to uplift loading require anchoring systems to resist pullout loads. Such anchors can be broadly classified as gravity anchors, pile anchors and plate anchors. Plate anchors can be circular, square or strip in shape. The loading applied on plate anchors can be vertical, inclined or horizontal depending on the anchor orientation. In this study, vario...

Analysis of Inclined Strip Anchors in Sand Based on the Block Set Mechanism

Anchors are widely used in foundation systems for structures requiring uplift resistance. As demonstrated by numerous theoretical and experimental studies on the subject, uncertainty remains as to both the theoretical uplift capacity of anchors in idealised soils and the suitability of the various modelling assumptions in capturing the responses observed during tests. This study, which deals ex...

Responses of Saturated Sand Surrounding A Bucket Foundations Under Horizontal Vibration Loading

In this paper we investigated the responses of saturated sand under horizontal vibration loading induced by a bucket foundation. It is shown that the saturated sand liquefies gradually since the vibration loading is applied on. The maximum displacement on the surface of sand layer occurs near the loading end and in this zone the sand is compressed and moves upwards. The liquefaction zone is dev...

Uplift Response of Strip Anchors in Sand Using Fem

The load displacement relationship of shallow rigid strip anchors embedded in sands and subjected to uplift pressures has been examined by using the finite element method. The soil medium is modeled as a linear elastic-perfect plastic material following Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion and an associated flow rule. The computed load displacement response is presented in non-dimensional form. The u...

Nonlocal effects in sand flows on an inclined plane.

The flow of sand on a rough inclined plane is investigated experimentally. We directly show that a jammed layer of grains spontaneously forms below the avalanche. Its properties and its relation with the rheology of the flowing layer of grains are presented and discussed. In a second part, we study the dynamics of erosion and deposition solitary waves in the domain where they are transversally ...
