Oral Vaccination of White-Tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus) with Mycobacterium bovis Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG)
Wildlife reservoirs of Mycobacterium bovis represent serious obstacles to the eradication of tuberculosis from livestock, particularly cattle. In Michigan, USA tuberculous white-tailed deer transmit M. bovis to other deer and cattle. One approach in dealing with this wildlife reservoir is to vaccinate deer, thus interfering with the intraspecies and interspecies transmission cycles. Thirty-thre...
متن کاملProtocol for a Systematic Review: Bacillus Calmette- Guerin (BCG) Revaccination and Protection Against Tuberculosis
Background: The length of the protective efficacy of BCG vaccine plays an important role in the establishment of vaccination policies. Revaccination with two or more doses is supposed to boost up the immunity. However, the effectiveness of BCG revaccination has been questioned. It was argued that revaccination may increase the rate of tuberculin conversion but does it result in more sustained r...
متن کاملPost-Vaccination Disseminated Bacillus Calmette Guerin Infection Among Children in Southern Iran.
BACKGROUND Disseminated bacillus calmette guerin (BCG) infection is a rare but life threatening complication of BCG vaccination. It has been mainly seen in severe immune deficiency. A precise and rapid diagnosis is crucial for prompt initiation of an aggressive anti-mycobacterial treatment. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is directly applicable to smear-positive clinical specimens, proven to be...

BACKGROUND Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccination is performed as a part of expanded Programme of Immunization (EPI). Suppurative lymphadenitis is the common complication of BCG vaccination. The optimum treatment for this complication is debated. METHODS All cases of BCG lymphadenitis presenting to pediatric surgical service over a 17-year study period were reviewed to determine the optim...
