چکیده
Background: Acinetobacter baumannii (A. baumannii) has emerged as a nosocomial pathogen especially in the intensive care units (ICUS). It’s enlisted at top of urgent threat level organisms CDC’s antibiotic resistance threats report. Objectives: To assess prevalence, risk factors health associated infection by A. baumannii, and to compare in-vitro efficacy colistin sulfate- tigecycline combinations versus their individual combination with levofloxacin meropenem against carbapenem resistant clinical isolates from an Egyptian tertiary hospital ICUs. Methodology: The study included 250 ICU patients, samples were collected according site infection. was isolated, identified tested for susceptibility disc diffusion. Broth microdilution method used assessment colistin, Tigecycline, levofloxacin, meropenem. Thirty all carbapenems checkerboard effect combinations. Results: forty-six highest prevalence respiratory secretions. Prior administration failure empirical therapy found be major infections baumannii. Colistin showed synergy (50%). Tigecycline-meropenem had antagonistic (66.7%). Conclusion: No confirmed this study. Only colistin-based combinations, particularly those may confer therapeutic benefits carbapenem-resistant

In vitro Comparison of Anti-Biofilm Effects against Carbapenem-Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii: Imipenem, Colistin, Tigecycline, Rifampicin and Combinations
BACKGROUND Multi-drug resistant (MDR) Acinetobacter baumannii has emerged as one of the most important nosocomial pathogens. In addition to the diverse resistance mechanisms, some A. baumannii strains are known to have biofilm-producing capacity, thereby decreasing antibiotic effectiveness. MATERIALS AND METHODS This study was designed to assess biofilm-producing capacity of three different M...
متن کاملActivities of colistin- and minocycline-based combinations against extensive drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii isolates from intensive care unit patients
BACKGROUND Extensive drug resistance of Acinetobacter baumannii is a serious problem in the clinical setting. It is therefore important to find active antibiotic combinations that could be effective in the treatment of infections caused by this problematic 'superbug'. In this study, we analyzed the in vitro activities of three colistin-based combinations and a minocycline-based combination agai...
متن کاملCarbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii contamination in an intensive care unit.
INTRODUCTION: Acinetobacter baumannii is a major pathogen causing infections in intensive care units (ICUs). In this study, we aimed to evaluate the presence of A. baumannii in an ICU environment and gloves from ICU workers and to characterize the antimicrobial resistance of the isolates in comparison with those isolated from ICU patients at the same hospital. METHODS: ICU samples were collec...
متن کاملIn Vitro Interactions of Antibiotic Combinations of Colistin, Tigecycline, and Doripenem Against Extensively Drug-Resistant and Multidrug-Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii
BACKGROUND Acinetobacter baumannii infections are difficult to treat owing to the emergence of various antibiotic resistant isolates. Because treatment options are limited for multidrug-resistant (MDR) A. baumannii infection, the discovery of new therapies, including combination therapy, is required. We evaluated the synergistic activity of colistin, doripenem, and tigecycline combinations agai...
متن کاملIn vitro synergism of combinations of colistin with selected antibiotics against colistin-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii
AIM The in vitro activity of colistin in combination with sulbactam, netilmicin, and vancomycin against colistin-resistant A. baumannii strains was investigated. Furthermore, the clonal relationship of the strains was analyzed. METHODS Clonal relationship was investigated using rep-PCR. To screen for synergysm, the fractional inhibitory concentration index (FICI) was calculated using checkerb...
