In situ characterisation of pathogen dynamics during a Pacific oyster mortality syndrome episode

چکیده

Significant mortality of Crassostrea gigas juveniles is observed systematically every year worldwide. Pacific Oyster Mortality Syndrome (POMS) caused by Ostreid Herpesvirus 1 (OsHV-1) infection leading to immune suppression, followed bacteraemia a consortium opportunistic bacteria. Using an in-situ approach and pelagic chambers, our aim in this study was identify pathogen dynamics oyster flesh the water column during course episode Mediterranean Thau lagoon (France). OsHV-1 concentrations increased before first clinical symptoms disease appeared, reached maximum moribund phase peak. The structure bacterial community associated with changed favour genera previously including Vibrio, Arcobacter, Psychrobium, Psychrilyobacter. During episode, releases bacteria were observed, succession, surrounding lanterns. These may spread within farms potentially impact other marine species, thereby reducing biodiversity shellfish farming areas.

Functional characterisation of phagocytes in the Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas

Invertebrates lack canonical adaptive immunity and mainly rely on innate immune system to fight against pathogens. The phagocytes, which could engulf and kill microbial pathogens, are likely to be of great importance and have to undertake significant roles in invertebrate immune defense. In the present study, flow cytometry combined with histological and lectin staining was employed to characte...

securitization of mortality risks in life annuities

insurers have in the past few decades faced longevity risks - the risk that annuitants survive more than expected - and therefore need a new approach to manage this new risk. in this dissertation we survey methods that hedge longevity risks. these methods use securitization to manage risk, so using modern financial and insurance pricing models, especially wang transform and actuarial concepts, ...

the effect of e-64 on the developmental competence of sheep cocs during in vitro maturation

in the present study, the effect of e-64 at different concentrations (0.5, 1, 5 and 10 µm) added to (1) the ivm medium on oocyte nuclear maturation and developmental competence of ovine oocytes, and (2) to the ivc medium on embryonic development of ovine embryos were investigated.

Persistence, Seasonal Dynamics and Pathogenic Potential of Vibrio Communities from Pacific Oyster Hemolymph

Bacteria of the genus Vibrio occur at a continuum from free-living to symbiotic life forms, including opportunists and pathogens, that can contribute to severe diseases, for instance summer mortality events of Pacific oysters Crassostrea gigas. While most studies focused on Vibrio isolated from moribund oysters during mortality outbreaks, investigations of the Vibrio community in healthy oyster...
