In defence of telling the truth to patients with dementia

In this bioethics’ paper, I oppose the arguments justifying lying and deceiving persons with dementia for their good or out of compassion. The goals achieved by deception should be in other ways. However, although some extraordinary cases, a medical professional caregiver can depart from veracity rule, cannot lead to invalidation truth-telling, being conditio sine qua non respect patient`s dignity. addition, consequentialist argument that says person dementia, while losing his her discernment world, harmed when becoming addressee lie is wrong. argue accepting not only paternalist contradictory principle patients but also harms dignity community care homes institutions. If patient able take status as an adult worthy respect, task taken over all more caregivers. This because social value, constituted interactions (shared dignity). Truthfulness often harder choice make, however, it given priority sake human dignity, well authenticity personal relations among those who provide — at home home. Avoiding easier choice, which is, requires effort build communication skills necessary give bad news least harmful way possible.
