IMRSim: A Disk Simulator for Interlaced Magnetic Recording Technology

AbstractThe emerging interlaced magnetic recording (IMR) technology achieves a higher areal density for hard disk drive (HDD) over the conventional (CMR) technology. Unfortunately, there has been no related simulator and product available to public. So, in this work, we implement first public IMR simulator, called IMRSim, simulating tracks implementing many state-of-the-art data placement strategies. IMRSim is built on actual CMR-based HDD precisely simulate I/O performance of drives.
