Improving CO2 methanation performance by distributed feeding in a Ni-Mn catalyst fixed bed reactor

It has been successfully demonstrated the effect of feeding reactants in distributed manner for reaction methanation CO2. This operation mode improved not only selectivity towards CH4, but also overall process performance. A fixed bed reactor, loaded with Ni-Mn based catalyst, was operated co-feeding both CO2 and H2, alternatively one them through several lateral inlets. Preserving same global W/FCO2 ratio, side distribution allowed to clearly increase activity (e.g., at 375 °C, conversion around 35% higher than that conventional one: XCO2 = 0.12 vs. 0.09). Furthermore, a substantially lower non-desired CO obtained any level SCO 0.45 0.70, when 0.10). In addition, more homogeneous temperature profile could be achieved without increasing severity hot spots appearance. On contrary, H2 always led similar or worse results configuration.
