Improvement of anaerobic co-digestion of plant waste and excess sludge using calcium peroxide

چکیده

Plant waste (PW) and excess sludge (ES) are two main organic matters of municipal solid waste. However, there few reports on their anaerobic co-digestion. In this work, the mixed proportion PW ES co-digestion was first optimized at mesophilic temperature, then enhanced with strong oxidant calcium peroxide (CP). The results showed that optimal mixing ratio 1/1 (in terms volatile solids), C/N digestion substrate 23.5/1, maximum methane production 172.6 mL/g solids). CP could enhance from ES. When content 0.2 g/g total suspended 234.8 mL/g, about 1.4 times blank. mechanism investigation promoted release matter during co-digestion, higher CP, greater soluble chemical oxygen demand. presence appropriate amount activities key enzymes in fermentation process, increased efficiency production. work provide an alternative strategy for resource utilization

Improvement of Anaerobic Digestion of Sewage Sludge, Using Combined Hydrogen Peroxide and Thermal Pre-Treatment

The present study investigates the influence of individual and combined hydrogen peroxide and thermal pre-treatment of waste activated sludge on anaerobic digestion. For so doing, it employs anaerobic batch reactors in the mesophilic conditions. For comparison, soluble fractions of organic matter, biogas production, biochemical methane potential, removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD), and vol...

Anaerobic co-digestion of coffee waste and sewage sludge.

The feasibility of the anaerobic co-digestion of coffee solid waste and sewage sludge was assessed. Five different solid wastes with different chemical properties were studied in mesophilic batch assays, providing basic data on the methane production, reduction of total and volatile solids and hydrolysis rate constant. Most of the wastes had a methane yield of 0.24-0.28 m3 CH4(STP)/kg VS(initia...

Anaerobic Co-Digestion of Duckweed (Lemna Gibba) and Waste Activated Sludge

In this study duckweed (Lemna gibba) and waste activated sludge (WAS) were co-digested in different proportions with acclimatized anaerobic granular sludge (AAGS) in mesophilic conditions. The aim was to evaluate if the co-digestion could lead to an increased efficiency of methane production compared to digestion of waste activated sludge alone. Results indicate that co-digestion with both duck...

Anaerobic co-digestion of algal sludge and waste paper to produce methane.

The unbalanced nutrients of algal sludge (low C/N ratio) were regarded as an important limitation factor to anaerobic digestion process. Adding high carbon content of waste paper in algal sludge feedstock to have a balanced C/N ratio was undertaken in this study. The results showed adding 50% (based on volatile solid) of waste paper in algal sludge feedstock increased the methane production rat...
