Aerodynamic Design Using Unstructured Meshes
A methodology for performing optimization on 2D and 3D unstructured grids based on the Euler equations is presented. The same, low-memory-cost explicit relaxation algorithm is used to resolve the discrete equations which govern the ow, linearized direct and adjoint problems. The analysis schemes, for both 2D and 3D, are high resolution Local-Extremum-Diminishing (LED) schemes and use Roe decomp...

In this paper, the exact discrete adjoint of an unstructured finite-volume formulation of the Euler equations in two dimensions is derived and implemented. The adjoint equations are solved with the same implicit scheme as used for the flow equations. The scheme is modified to efficiently account for multiple functionals simultaneously. An optimization framework, which couples an analytical shap...
متن کاملOptimization-based Fluid Simulation on Unstructured Meshes
We present a novel approach to fluid simulation, allowing us to take into account the surface energy in a precise manner. This new approach combines a novel, topology-adaptive approach to deformable interface tracking, called the deformable simplicial complexes method (DSC) with an optimization-based, linear finite element method for solving the incompressible Euler equations. The deformable si...
متن کاملRunge-Kutta discontinuous Galerkin method using a new type of WENO limiters on unstructured meshes
In this paper we generalize a new type of limiters based on the weighted essentially nonoscillatory (WENO) finite volume methodology for the Runge-Kutta discontinuous Galerkin (RKDG) methods solving nonlinear hyperbolic conservation laws, which were recently developed in [31] for structured meshes, to two-dimensional unstructured triangular meshes. The key idea of such limiters is to use the en...
