چکیده
Crossflow turbines represent a valuable choice for energy recovery in aqueducts, due to their constructive simplicity and good efficiency under variable head jump conditions. Several experimental numerical studies concerning the optimal design of crossflow hydraulic have already been proposed, but all them assume that structural safety is fully compatible with sought after geometry. We show first, reference specific study case, geometry most efficient impeller would lead shortly, using blades traditional circular profile made standard material, mechanical failure. Cavitation Inception in Crossflow Hydro Turbines
Cavitation is a common flow phenomena in most hydraulic turbines and has the potential to cause vibration, blade surface damage and performance loss. Despite the fact that crossflow turbines have been used in small-scale hydropower systems for a long time, cavitation has not been studied in these turbines. In this paper, we present the findings of a computational study on cavitation inception i...
متن کاملSediment Erosion in Hydraulic Turbines
Sediment erosion not only reduces efficiency and life of hydropower turbines but also causes problems in operation and maintenance. Several factors are responsible for this erosion in hydro turbine components. This paper presents the sediment erosion types in hydraulic turbines and their components based upon an extensive literature review and the field observation at Cahua hydropower plant, Pe...
متن کاملOptimization of pulsed jets in crossflow
We use direct numerical simulation to study the mixing behaviour of pulsed jets in crossflow. The pulse is a square wave and the simulations consider several jet velocity ratios and pulse conditions. Our objective is to study the effects of pulsing and to explain the wide range of optimal pulsing conditions found in experimental studies of the problem. The central theme is that pulsing generate...
متن کاملPerformance optimization of wind turbines
Improving performance of wind turbines through effective control strategies to reduce the power generation cost is highly desired by the wind industry. The majority of the literature on performance of wind turbines has focused on models derived from principles versed in physics. Physics-based models are usually complex and not accurate due to the fact that wind turbines involve mechanical, elec...
متن کاملEffect of Cavitation on Hydraulic Turbines- A Review
Cavitation is an important problem in hydraulic machines that negatively affects their performance and may cause damages. Cavitation is a phenomenon which manifests itself in the pitting of the metallic surfaces of turbine parts because of the formation of cavities. In the present paper, a brief description of the general features of cavitation phenomenon is given and also discussed about the T...
