چکیده

Some studies based on bone biopsy have demonstrated that in patients with tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO) the mineralization process of matrix is profoundly disturbed. However, interrelationship between clinical and biochemical features microarchitecture this disease needs further analysis. With purpose mind, we set out three objectives: (i) to determine estimated strength a group using high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) finite element analysis (FEA), (ii) investigate correlations duration disease, features, density, HR-pQCT FEA parameters, (iii) compare parameters healthy control group. Ten TIO were included. All had non-resolved disease. At distal radius, all significantly affected comparison controls. tibia, impaired, except for trabecular thickness. more tibia than radius. Women (n = 7) lower In men 3), at tibia. Alkaline phosphatase levels exhibited negative correlation failure load, stiffness. Higher parathyroid hormone correlated poorer parameters. We believe TIO, hormonal disturbances lack mechanical stimulus specially converge generate an extremely harmful combination health. © 2021 American Society Bone Mineral Research (ASBMR).

Bone mass and microarchitecture in CKD patients with fracture.

Patients with predialysis chronic kidney disease (CKD) have increased risk for fracture, but the structural mechanisms underlying this increased skeletal fragility are unknown. We measured areal bone mineral density (aBMD) by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry at the spine, hip, and radius, and we measured volumetric BMD (vBMD), geometry, and microarchitecture by high-resolution peripheral quanti...

Osteomalacia and hyperparathyroid bone disease in patients with nephrotic syndrome.

Patients with nephrotic syndrome have low blood levels of 25 hydroxyvitamin D (25-OH-D) most probably because of losses in urine, and a vitamin D-deficient state may ensue. The biological consequences of this phenomenon on target organs of vitamin D are not known. This study evaluates one of these target organs, the bone. Because renal failure is associated with bone disease, we studied six pat...

Bone Microarchitecture in Renal Osteodystrophy Patients

Aims Renal Osteodystrophy (ROD) is a systemic disorder that develops early with loss of kidney functions and is manifested by abnormalities in bone metabolism, mineralization and volume. Phosphate binders are a major constituent in chronic kidney disease management. Previous Aluminum and calcium containing phosphate binders were thought to be of detrimental effect on bone histology. The aim of ...

Bone mineral density and bone scintigraphy in adult Saudi female patients with osteomalacia.

OBJECTIVE This prospective study was conducted to demonstrate the role of bone mineral density (BMD) and bone scan in the management of adult Saudi female patients with established diagnosis of osteomalacia. METHODS Bone scan using Tc99m methylene diphosphonate (MDP) and BMD of the lumbar spine and femoral neck using dual x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) were performed at the time of diagnosis 6 mo...
