Impacts of Measurement Errors on Real-Time Thermal Rating Estimation for Overhead Lines

To exploit additional capacity on legacy transmission assets, network owners have developed a variety of techniques to support real-time thermal rating (RTTR) overhead lines so as get the maximum possible within their operating range. Most RTTR are inferred from effective weather conditions (EWCs) that used assess equilibrium conductors indicated by measured temperature ${T}_c$ , thus making estimates sensitive measurement errors (MEs). highlight impacts MEs RTTRs, this paper describes two EWC-based approaches estimation and assesses accuracy resulting under steady state given different levels variables. Furthermore, develops Monte Carlo-based approach model propagation uncertainties through estimates. Numerous scenarios for particular instance generated combining Carlo method, where sampled sensor specification based limits, with an enhanced models transient changes in each scenario. The lower percentiles extracted samples can not only mitigate overestimation due MEs, but also inform system operators risk associated decisions.
